Bristlecone Pine Creations
As seen on "The Good Place" .
The Bristlecone Pine is a very ancient tree, it is known to be the oldest living organism on earth. The oldest individual bristlecone pine is in California, and is 4,700 years old. The bristlecone pine lives at about 11,000 feet, just below the tree line. It is a very hard and resinous wood, which makes it very resistant to insect infestation. The bristlecone pine used in my furniture survived to be anywhere from several hundred to over a thousand years old. The pines were felled during a wind storm, after having endured several fires, then were buried for several more centuries, up to 10 inches in the ground, suffering little if any rot. Since the area is very inaccessible, wood must be cut and hauled by hand. It is very heavy, and must be carried in small pieces each time. The process of finding the bristlecone pine, hauling it, having it custom cut, and working the wood in order to display its beauty, is a rewarding process. Often the logs contain so much beauty that they stand alone as an example of nature’s work, and need no improvement from a mere mortal. Thank you, and enjoy,Joe Balsamo
